18-year-old man killed in workplace accident at Premier Tech

An accident in a peat field in the #x27;a Premier Tech company in Rivière-du-Loup caused the death of an 18-year-old man on Tuesday afternoon.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) confirms that the man is Jean-Xavier Plourde, from Rivière-du-Loup.

According to information from the SQ, the services of x27;Emergency were called to the scene around 4 p.m. to assist the seriously injured worker.

The man was then transferred to the injured worker. hospital, where his death was declared.

Investigators and the SQ and the Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST) were dispatched to the site.

The event allegedly occurred when the victim was driving a tractor and participating in the towing of another tractor, explains SQ spokesperson Catherine Bernard.

The cable that connected the two tractors broke and one of its ends landed in the cabin where the driver was, causing his injuries.

The CNESST says its investigators are continuing their work to better understand the circumstances of the accident.

Premier Tech specifies that it will collaborate in the investigation, but did not wish to grant an interview on the subject. In an email, the company says it is wordless and says its thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim. Premier Tech adds that psychological help has been offered to its employees affected by the tragedy.
