A-30 pile-up kills two, injures 10

The accident occurred in a construction zone on Highway 30 eastbound in Brossard.

A pileup that occurred late Tuesday evening in Montérégie left a very heavy toll: 2 dead and 10 injured.

The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in a roadwork area in the x27;Highway 30, eastbound, in Brossard.

According to initial information gathered by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the driver of a heavy truck did not ;didn't slow down as it was supposed to on approach he of the work zone located at the height of boulevard Grande-Allée. He crashed into seven of the vehicles in front of him.

One ​​of the vehicles hit had four occupants. A 42-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy were killed, while a 55-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were seriously injured. Their lives are said to be in danger.

The collisions left eight others injured, all of whom were taken to hospital. The driver of the truck was treated for nervous shock.

At the start of the morning on Wednesday, the SQ had not been able to determine the reason why the driver of the truck was unable to slow down in time.

Highway 30 eastbound was still closed to automobile traffic at daybreak, between the x27; Grande-Allée entrance and Route 112, for an indefinite period. A detour must be made through the local network.
