The 18-year-old fugitive was reportedly apprehended at the scene by police.
A driver who was trying to flee the police in his vehicle seriously injured a 15-year-old teenager who was riding a scooter overnight from Thursday to Friday in Laval.
According the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI), the teenager was transported to a hospital center where he is in critical condition.
It was a big intervention for us, said Antoine Ortuso, spokesperson for Urgences-santé.
The events began around 12:10 a.m., when two patrol officers from the Service de police de Laval (SPL) reportedly intercepted a vehicle that had committed a violation of the Highway Safety Code in the Chomedey sector. The driver allegedly refused to stop, resulting in a chase, the BEI said.
During the chase, the vehicle allegedly drove at high speed on boulevard Saint-Martin Ouest, heading east, and collided with the moped (scooter) driven by the teenager.
The 18-year-old fugitive was apprehended at the scene by the police.
The artery was closed so that experts could study the scene of the accident.
Six BEI investigators were assigned to investigate the circumstances of the event. The parallel investigation has been entrusted to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), which will also act as a support police service.
