Abduction of Elnaz Hajtamiri: Mohamad Lilo will remain in custody in Ontario

Individual is accused of having kidnapped the wife of 37 years old last January at Wasaga Beach.

Mohamad Lilo is notably accused of kidnapping of Elnaz Hajtamiri in January 2022 at Wasaga Beach.

The Barrie court on Monday morning refused to release on bail Quebecer Mohamad Lilo, who is accused of kidnapping Elnaz Hajtamiri in Wasaga Beach on January 12, 2022. The 35-year-old individual was arrested in Brossard at mid-July before being transferred to Ontario.

Police say Elnaz Hajtamiri, a 37-year-old Ontario woman of Iranian descent, was kidnapped by three individuals who allegedly posed as uniformed police officers. It has still not been reviewed since.

A publication ban prevents us from giving the reasons of the justice of the peace for refusing to release the accused or any other information in this case.

Hearing the decision, Mohamad Lilo, dressed in his orange prisoner's uniform, appeared very disappointed on the screen of the hearing, which took place by videoconference for more than an hour.

The Montrealer has been incarcerated in the provincial prison of Penetanguishene, near Barrie, since his arrest.

He wanted to ask to speak aside to his lawyer, who was on the line from Montreal. Me Philippe Grenier nevertheless politely asked him to be quiet, because the hearing had not yet been adjourned.

Elnaz Hajtamiri has not been seen since January 12, 2022 in Wasaga Beach, north of Toronto.

His client makes facing three charges of attempted murder and attempted kidnapping in connection with a frying pan attack on the missing woman in a Richmond Hill parking lot in December 2021.

He is also charged with kidnapping in connection with the disappearance of the Ontario woman in January 2022.

The Quebecer will have to return to court, that of Collingwood this time, on 11 next October for further proceedings against him.

A new restraining order has been issued against him regarding six other individuals whom he cannot contact under no pretext.
