The leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Romania support the idea of ​​granting Ukraine candidate status for membership in the European Union. This was announced by French President Emmanuel Macron after a meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

– All four countries (France, Germany, Italy and Romania) support the status of an EU candidate for Ukraine. We hope that this decision will be unanimously adopted by the European Council,” said the President of France.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany is in favor of candidate status for Ukraine and Moldova. Macron added that this status for Ukraine will be accompanied by a roadmap, as well as taking into account the situation in the Western Balkans.

On June 17, the European Commission will approve the assessment of the Ukrainian application and send it to the leaders of European countries for consideration, and those at the summit 23- On June 24, they will finally decide what status to grant to Ukraine.
