Allies will supply Ukraine with three types of tanks: their main characteristics
BILD publication compared the main characteristics of the battle tanks that Germany, the US and the UK will supply to Ukraine, and talked about the features of the Abrams tanks.
It is noted that the Abrams has become the most powerful ground weapon in the arsenal of the US armed forces since its inception emergence in the 1980s. Thanks to the gas turbine engine, Abrams, despite its weight of 57 tons, can reach a maximum speed of 68 km/h.
Ammunition is separated from four crew members, which significantly increases their chances of surviving when hit. In addition, the tank has “reactive” armor. When an anti-tank projectile hits the Abrams, it explodes outside the inner hull containing the crew.
Russian tanks tend to be smaller and slower than the Abrams, have diesel engines, and are more prone to exploding when hit by anti-tank weapons, as they often carry ammunition for their main gun right under the turret.
- The Pentagon has announced which weapons, except for Abrams tanks, will come as part of additional security assistance to Ukraine announced on Wednesday by the Biden administration.
