“PUNTA CATALINA IS A GOLD MINE AND THE PEOPLE HAVE TO DEFEND IT”
The former administrator of the Punta Catalina Thermoelectric Power Plant, Jaime Aristy Escuder, came out in front of the accusations of the Government that points out that he is responsible for the failures that the plant presents and called on the Dominican people to defend that investment.
Aristy Escuder was interviewed this morning on the CDN 37 television program Despierta con CDN.
Aristy Escuder said that the failures said by the ministers of the Presidency, Lizandro Macarrulla and of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte, are due to a strategy that the current authorities have to “sell at the price of a dead cow” that electricity generator to benefit buyers.
“There is a strategy of selling the Punta Catalina thermoelectric power plant at a dead cow price, that is money, that is an investment of the Dominican people that must be defended,” he said.
He challenged to put the Punta Catalina generator out of operation if the failures they point to are as serious as both officials point out, while at the same time ascribing the same to the dismissal of two trained technicians, with more than 20 years of experience.
“By firing these two people they have stopped giving maintenance to key equipment and that increases the probability of failures and that is their responsibility, and that is what they are looking for, trying to create the feeling that Punta Catalina has many failures, but it is to depress the price, to sell it at the price of a dead cow, “he said when interviewed on the program Despierta with CDN.
He affirmed that these officials seek to benefit “the buyers and that cries in the presence of God, that must be avoided, the country has to defend Punta Catalina.”
Aristy Escuder said that Punta Catalina is a gold mine. He pointed out that as of July the Dominican State had been given in direct benefits for 105 million dollars.
“Since January, the two units were in testing and in May they began to operate at full capacity and a profit level of 105 million dollars was generated that was delivered to the State, that is, it is a Punta Catalina gold mine … represent almost a third of all electricity generation throughout the country, “he said.
The former official said that they have been transparent with the plant and criticized that the current authorities did not specify in the budget project the offer for sale that it has for Punta Catalina.
“And in relation to the sale, in totality, listen to me, that's the point, how much it is, so they are not being transparent, let them say it. Why not put it in a transparent way in the budget of Income and Public Expenditure Law? What is the percentage they intend to sell? What is the price you intend to request from potential investors in Punta Catalina? That is, they are not being transparent, “he said.
