The invasion of Ukraine from the territory of Belarus in connection with the formation of a joint group of troops with the Russian Federation there is unlikely. This is stated in the intelligence report of the British Ministry of Defense.

In mid-October, the self-proclaimed President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced the deployment of a group of 70,000 Belarusian and up to 15,000 Russian troops, and subsequently Minsk published a video with the arrival of the Russian military. At the same time, intelligence considers it unlikely that Russia has already transferred a significant number of additional troops to Belarus.

The defense department believes that the Russian Federation is unlikely to be able to assemble formations ready for combat operations in such numbers due to the fact that its forces are already deployed in Ukraine. The Belarusian army most likely retains a minimal ability to carry out complex operations.

Thus, these announcements may be an attempt to demonstrate Russian-Belarusian unity and convince Ukraine to divert more forces to the defense of the northern borders.
