China announced Friday to end cooperation with the United States on several issues after the visit this week to Taiwan by the leader of the American congressmen Nancy Pelosi.

Beijing will suspend Sino-U.S. climate change talks and cancel a military leadership talk and two security meetings, the Chinese foreign ministry has said, citing the contempt shown by Ms. Pelosi for China's strong opposition to her visit to Taiwan.

China and the United States, the two biggest emitters of greenhouse gases, struck a surprise climate deal at the COP26 summit in Glasgow last year.

They pledged to work together to accelerate climate action over the next decade and to meet regularly to tackle the climate crisis.

Among other measures announced on Friday, the Foreign Office said it was suspending cooperation with Washington on the repatriation of illegal migrants, as well as on justice, transnational crime and the fight against drugs.< /p>

Earlier, he had indicated that he was imposing sanctions on Ms. Pelosi and her immediate family, without detailing what they consisted of.

The China, which considers Taiwan as an integral part of its territory, launched Thursday, in reaction to the visit of the elected American, the largest military exercises in its history around the island, which will last until Sunday.
