CNN: The situation in Bakhmut is “much worse than officially reported.” The OP talks about a possible retreat
Today, the situation in Bakhmut, Donetsk region, is much worse than officially reported. This is reported by CNN with reference to the Ukrainian military.
«The situation in Bakhmut is now very difficult. Much worse than officially reported <…> Especially in the northern direction, where the Russians have advanced the most», — said one of the unnamed Ukrainian fighters.
At the same time, the defender denied the information that the Ukrainian forces in Bakhmut were cut off from supplies.
«The village of Khromovo is the key to the defense of the city. When it is taken, only one Bakhmut road will remain to supply the city – Konstantinovka & # 187;, & # 8212; he added.
The fighter also stressed that despite the difficulties, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will protect Bakhmut as long as possible.
In turn, economic adviser to the President of Ukraine Alexander Rodnyansky said in an interview with CNN that the Ukrainian military could conduct a “strategic retreat” from Bakhmut. According to him, now the invaders are using the best units of the terrorist PMC «Wagner» in order to encircle Bakhmut.
«Our military is obviously going to weigh all the options. They hold the city for now, but if need be, they will retreat strategically, because we are not going to sacrifice all our people just like that, ”Rodnyansky said.
Rodnyansky noted that the area west of Bakhmut is fortified, so even if the Armed Forces of Ukraine retreat from the city, Russian forces will not be able to move forward quickly.
Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Malyar reported on February 28 that additional units of the Ukrainian army were sent to Bakhmut. Malyar said that the decision to hold Bakhmut is made by the military, “who are not guided by political motives.”
- President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the intensity of the fighting for Bakhmut is only growing.
