Court found socialite Maxwell guilty of persuading girls to have sex with Epstein

Manhattan federal court sentenced ex-girlfriend and assistant Jeffrey Epstein – 60-year-old socialite lioness Ghilain Maxwell – to 20 years in prison. According to the Air Force, the court found it proven that between 1994 and 2004, Maxwell attracted and prepared four girls for sex with a financier. The two victims were 14 years old at the time.

Maxwell's defense insisted that she be sentenced to five years and four months in prison, the prosecution asked for 30 to 55 years in prison.

Maxwell herself, speaking at the hearing via video link, said she accused Epstein of being was a “manipulative, cunning and controlling person” who fooled his surroundings. And she assured that she was sorry for the pain experienced by his victims.

Judge Alison Nathan replied that Maxwell did not show remorse and did not admit her guilt.

American financier Jeffrey Epstein was accused of human trafficking for the purpose of their sexual exploitation. According to investigators, the businessman received sexual services from underage girls and “borrowed” them to influential people. He faced up to 45 years in prison. The billionaire pleaded not guilty. Epstein was detained on July 7, 2019. A month later, on August 10, the businessman committed suicide in a prison cell in New York.

American Virginia Giuffre claimed that at the age of 17, at the request of Epstein, she had sex with Prince Andrew, the second son of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. Amid the criticism that followed, Prince Andrew lost his royal powers. Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against the Queen's son for sexual abuse, in February 2022, the parties reached a pre-trial agreement.

Maxwell has been in custody since July 2020. She was arrested in New Hampshire (USA). She is accused in a case of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation. Her partner was financier Jeffrey Epstein, who committed suicide while in custody in August 2019. he did not wait for the trial on charges of human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

One of the affected girls, Virginia Giuffre, stated that at the age of 17, at the request of Epstein, she had sex with Prince Andrew, the second son of the Queen of Great Britain Elizabeth II.
