The damage from residential buildings destroyed by the Russians in Ukraine is $40 billion

During the war in Ukraine, at least 5 million square meters of housing were damaged by the shelling of the Russian military. Losses inflicted in the amount of about 40 billion dollars. This was stated by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal at a government meeting.

– Only according to preliminary estimates, the occupiers destroyed 45 million square meters of housing. Some towns and villages have been completely turned into ruins,” Shmygal noted.

According to him, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a single form for fixing the damage caused to Ukrainians from the destruction of housing. Now every victim will be able to receive a digital document.

– The government has approved a single and unified form that will record the damage caused to the housing of Ukrainians by Russian troops. Previously, such a certificate was drawn up in an arbitrary form. Now every citizen whose housing has been damaged or destroyed will have a digital document confirming his damage. With this decision, we are also laying the foundation for a future register of damaged property, he stressed.

The government has also created a special commission that will audit the damage caused by the Russian invasion. This is not only about destroyed infrastructure, but also about residential buildings, environmental damage and unrealized business income.
