Daphne Deckers owes a role in James Bond to her husband

In 1997, Daphne briefly starred alongside Pierce Brosnan in the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies. In The smartest person she now tells how she got into that tiny role. She owes it mainly to her husband, tennis player Richard Krajicek.

When he won Wimbledon, the ball (literally and figuratively) started rolling. “I was sitting there in the stands and the BBC kept taking me in,” explains Daphne. “Then I got a call from the production company. I actually thought it was Banana Split.”

Daphne could not believe at first that she was asked for a possible role in the film. “They said, ‘We saw you sitting in the stands. Do you want to audition?’ Sorry? But of course. I went to audition and then I became Pierce’s PR wife.”

The smartest person will be broadcast on NPO 2 on working days at 8.40 pm. Watch the episode here back.
