The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations ( FSIN) was questioned about its participation in covering legal costs. Vice Chief Heather Bear replied that the Federation would if they had the funds, but instead pointed to a GoFundMe campaign that aims to raise $60,000. As of Monday morning, nearly $30,000 had been raised.

The FSIN has made no comment other than to request the release of Dawn Walker.

In the United States, the 48-year-old woman is also the target of allegations of using false documents to cross the American border.

Found on August 5 in Oregon after two weeks of disappearance, Dawn Walker was arrested and then detained in the United States before being entrusted to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in British Columbia, then finally to the Saskatoon Police Department.
