On Wednesday, July 21, the Municipality, through its project “Itinerant Libraries”, distributed 240 books to two of its day centers: The station (Mercedes, between Fernández Crespo and Arenal Grande) and Compa space, which works in the Methodist Church of Aguada (Lima 1621).
Were delivered 120 copies to each of these centers who are dedicated to care for homeless people.
The City Hall’s day centers are part of its Homeless People Attention Program. In addition to La Estación and Espacio Compa, there are two others: The plot (Uruguay 1932 and 1930, corner Arenal Grande) and Home (Uruguay 1239, between Yi and Cuareim).
They are devices where social, health and psychotherapeutic care is provided to people over 18 years of age in vulnerable situations and homeless. In the case of La Estación, it is dedicated to care for people over 60 in a street situation.
The “Itinerant Libraries” project is responsible for distributing drawers with books to neighborhood organizations, which lend them for the enjoyment of literature.
The base of operations is located in the basement of the castle of the Rodó park, where new books are received and classified, donations and those that were returned are placed in quarantine.
Through this initiative, get literature to 80 popular pots, with the distribution of about 3,800 books by various authors and characteristics, reaching more than 20,000 people.
The team of departmental libraries is in charge of making weekly tours of the pots, to carry out this logistics.
