Denisova – about her dismissal: the OP did not like my position. In particular, regarding LGBTI people

The reason for removing Lyudmila Denisova from her position was her “independent position on all issues”, including LGBTI issues. The ex-Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights expressed this opinion live on the Facebook page of the Kharkiv Human Rights Group.

According to Denisova, at the beginning of her work as the Ombudsman – in 2019 – cooperation with the Office of the President and the President was “at a high level”, but everything changed with the new presidential team.

– The tension grew. My independent position on all issues, starting with the statements of some statesmen or officials regarding LGBTI people. I have always appreciated such statements. She made a presentation so that such officials would be eliminated,” Denisova said.

She added that the tension was “not only in this matter.”

– I had my own opinion and expressed it. This is what the authorized person should do. And the end of relations with the Office of the President was put when I turned to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada – then still Razumkov – regarding my position on the bill on the so-called oligarchs and suggested that I apply to the Venice Commission. Then messengers from the Office of the President came to me, – said the ex-VRU Commissioner for Human Rights.

Denisova also assured that she continues to engage in social activities, in particular, with colleagues and partners she creates an NGO that will record crimes , committed in Ukraine by the Russian army, and transmit information to international human rights organizations.

Denisova was dismissed by the Verkhovna Rada on May 31. The appointment of a new ombudsman was not considered by the Council. According to Ukrainskaya Pravda, after the start of the war, Denisova invented some of the sexual crimes of Russians in Ukraine, which she openly declared. At the same time, in the article itself, the author Sonya Lukashova refers only to anonymous sources of information.
