Attack in Edmonton  : Suspect has been arrested

Police established a security perimeter in the area where the stabbing took place, in the Homesteader district.

Clarence Lawrence, the alleged perpetrator of the knife attack that left one dead and two seriously injured, early Wednesday afternoon, in Edmonton, has been arrested, police said.

The suspect is 25 years old, authorities said.

Police believe he carried out the attacks randomly.

In a photo showing a security zone marked out by police , a body could be seen lying on the ground, hidden under a tarp at the corner of Henry Avenue.

The police did not give for more details on the identity of the victims at this time.

The Maria Goretti Catholic School, which is located across the street, has closed as a precaution, at the request of the police . But school activities continued there, a school official said in an email to CBC.

Other schools in the area have decided to keep students inside as police search for the suspect.
