Excessive use of force: charges against RCMP corporal

According to the RCMP, the charge stems from an “allegation of #x27;excessive use of force on duty.

An RCMP corporal in Nova Scotia is facing one count of assault and one count of strangulation.

Mark Kellock of the Mounted Police Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is scheduled to appear September 26 in Pictou Provincial Court to face charges, which were filed August 31.

Pictou Detachment RCMP received a complaint against Corporal Kellock on February 21st. RCMP escalated the case to the Nova Scotia Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT), an independent agency that investigates serious or sensitive incidents involving police .

Neither the RCMP nor the SiRT have provided details on the precise nature of the alleged facts.

This is of an allegation of excessive use of force on duty, however, said in a statement Thursday Inspector Matco Sirotic, RCMP officer in charge of the Northeast District in Nova Scotia.

Mark Kellock has been a member of the RCMP for 29 years, according to the force. He was assigned to administrative duties. His employment status is under review, and will depend on the results of an internal ethics investigation and legal proceedings, Inspector Sirotic wrote.
