An explosion injures several people at a refinery in Newfoundland

An explosion took place at the Come By Chance refinery in Newfoundland and Labrador, according to information collected by the CBC network.

According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police ( RCMP), at least seven people were injured, one seriously.

The explosion occurred around 4 p.m. local time, according to witnesses.

As of 5:30 p.m., numerous ambulances continued to arrive and leave the scene.

Police have instructed the Clarenville Hospital to prepare to receive injured persons.

At 6:15 p.m. Newfoundland time, Braya Renewable Fuels, owner of the refinery, confirmed that an incident had occurred there in the late afternoon. The incident has been brought under control, plant officials say in a brief statement.

In 2021, the Come by Chance refinery was sold by North Atlantic Refining to the company private investment firm Cresta Fund Management, based in Dallas, Texas. The Come by Chance refinery was then renamed Braya Renewable Fuels.
