Minister Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Burbock arrived on January 10 on an unannounced visit to Kharkov. This was reported by the DPA.
Burbock became the first German official to visit the city since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In addition, she is the first Foreign Minister to visit Kharkiv since February 2022.
«This city is a symbol of the absolute madness of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. It is important for me that we do not lose sight of Ukraine's place in our European family, even in this winter of war»,— said the head of the German Foreign Ministry in Kharkiv.
Burbock visited Kharkiv together with her Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba and Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Oleksiy Makeev. She, among other things, saw the Saltovka district, which was seriously damaged as a result of Russian shelling.
The head of the German Foreign Ministry stressed that the people of Ukraine “can count on the solidarity and support” of Germany. In particular, she announced new deliveries of weapons needed by Ukraine to free its fellow citizens who are still suffering from the terror of the Russian occupation.
According to Bild, the visit lasted several hours. The minister and her delegation, who had arrived by train, set off on their return trip on Tuesday evening.
