The Ukrainian soldier, who was shot by the invaders after his phrase «Glory to Ukraine!», was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. This is reported by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

«Awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to Alexander Matsievsky. Ukrainian soldier. A person who will be known and remembered forever. For courage, for confidence in Ukraine and his “Glory to Ukraine!”. Glory to the hero! Glory to heroes! Glory to Ukraine!» — said the Ukrainian leader.

According to the press service of the SBU, the department’s investigators established that the shot was Matsievsky, a sniper of the 163rd battalion of the 119th separate brigade of the TPO of the Chernihiv region.

«It was possible to finally confirm the data of the Hero after a complex of investigative actions, which included communication with the relatives and sworn brothers of the deceased, as well as the development of photo and video materials. In addition, the SBU received a conclusion from a forensic portrait examination, confirming that the military man in the video is Alexander Matsievsky», — says the message.

The head of the SBU, Vasily Malyuk, stressed that he was a real hero who, even looking in the face death, demonstrated to the whole world what Ukrainian character and invincibility are.

«It is these defenders who defend our land today, which means that the enemy will certainly be defeated. Because the Great Victory of Ukraine consists of the heroic deeds of people like Alexander Matsievsky. Glory to the hero! Glory to heroes! Glory to Ukraine!» – said Malyuk.

He added that the special service is working on the identification of the invaders who committed this bloody crime.

«We will do our best to ensure that these the monsters have suffered their well-deserved punishment,» added Malyuk.

Maciewski was called up for military service in March 2022. Since the end of December, he was considered missing near the village of Krasnaya Gora in the Donetsk region. As the SBU managed to establish, Matsievsky was shot on December 30, 2022. His body was returned home in February 2023.

The pre-trial investigation is carried out under Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war).
