ISW: Armed Forces of Ukraine will continue to grind the best Wagner forces in Bakhmut
The Ukrainian Defense Forces will continue fighting for Bakhmut in order to deplete the elite units of the terrorist PMC «Wagner». This was reported by the American Institute for the Study of War.
Analysts note that the battle for Bakhmut has become strategically important for Ukraine because of the composition of the Russian forces deployed in the city area. In this regard, ISW draws attention to the fact that the Russian occupation forces near Bakhmut have recently changed tactics and attracted higher-quality special forces and elements of regular troops to the fighting.
«PMC «Wagner&# 187; still probably using prisoners for operations in Bakhmut, albeit to a much more limited extent than in previous months, due to the huge casualties suffered by recruits during frontal attacks. Analysts emphasize that the battle for Bakhmut can seriously undermine the best forces of «Wagner».
Judging by the recent statements of the leader of the terrorist PMC Yevgeny Prigozhin, he fears that the Russian Defense Ministry is fighting the battle for Bakhmut to the last «Wagnerian».
«Severely damaging the influence and reputation of Prigozhin, one of the most radical Russian nationalists, would be an important achievement in terms of the long-term prospects for restoring sanity in Russia. This is in the interests of the United States, as well as in the interests of Ukraine, and it is raising the stakes in the battle for Bakhmut», experts add.
- On March 6, the President assembled the Headquarters to decide the fate of Bakhmut. Zaluzhny and Syrsky spoke in favor of continuing the defensive operation and further strengthening positions in Bakhmut.
- Syrsky said that the battles for Bakhmut had reached the highest level of tension.
