ISW: Occupier's attempts to capture Bakhmut nearing climax

The attempts of the Russian occupiers to seize the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region are close to climax, as it was in the Kherson region in August. This is reported by the American Institute for the Study of War.

Analysts believe that the losses of the invaders are forcing the Russian military in the Bakhmut area to use assault groups of a detachment. Thus, the press secretary of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Serhiy Cherevaty, reported on December 27 that Russian forces in the Bakhmut region no longer operate in companies and battalion tactical groups, but instead use small groups of 10 to 15 people (detachment organizations)&#187 ;.

Similar things already happened in August in the Kherson region. Then the Russian occupation troops also «visibly degraded» from company and battalion tactical groups to separate detachment groups.

In addition, the pace of advancement of Russian troops in the Bakhmut area has recently slowed down against the backdrop of a growing shortage of personnel and ammunition. This will prevent the invaders from maintaining a high rate of offensive operations in the area in the short term.

The ISW emphasizes that the Russian advance in the Bakhmut area will further slow down, and possibly even stop if the troops stationed there are not will receive significant reinforcements in manpower and ammunition in the near future.
