ISW: Putin creates conditions for protracted war in Ukraine

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin creates the conditions for a protracted war of conquest in Ukraine. This is reported by the American Institute for the Study of War.

Analysts note that during a meeting with the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights, Putin said that the war in Ukraine could be «a long process&# 187; and that the capture of new territories is an important result for Russia.

Experts note that at the meeting, Putin compared himself to the Russian Tsar Peter the Great and noted that Russia now controls the Sea of ‚Äč‚ÄčAzov, which the tsar fought for. Thus, the Russian dictator has outlined his current goals in Ukraine as openly imperialist and still maximalist.

The ISW emphasizes that Putin is setting up Russian society for a protracted, exhausting war in Ukraine, the goal of which — conquest of new Ukrainian territories.

«Putin seems unwilling to risk losing domestic momentum by even momentarily halting his offensive operations, let alone retreating from his goals, which , as he increasingly makes clear, include the restoration of the Russian empire in one form or another», analysts note.
