Line #5: Michigan Judge Rules Enbridge Right

Many environmental groups have vowed to shut down the cross-border pipeline for good.

A Michigan judge gave right to Enbridge over its Line 5, the cross-border pipeline project opposed by state Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

In her decision, Judge Janet Neff says this case must be decided in a US federal court.

This is the second time in the space of n nine months since Janet Neff sided with Enbridge on a jurisdictional issue.

Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer has been trying to stop this project since November 2020. She fears possible leaks in the Strait of Mackinac, where the pipeline would pass.

Proponents of the project, including the Canadian government, argue that Line No. 5 is essential to the energy supply of the #x27;Ontario, Quebec and several states in the US Midwest.

Environmentalists fear that a technical fault or accident due to the anchor a ship cause a disaster in one of the most important basins in the region.
