Luxembourg allocated 15% of the defense budget for military assistance to Ukraine

The authorities of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg will allocate 15% of their defense budget to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky during a joint briefing with Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel.

– This visit is very important for us, for me personally. He confirms: to be in Ukraine now, to be with Ukraine now, is to be on the bright side of history, no matter how difficult it may be. We were in constant contact, and Luxembourg constantly helped us … I am very grateful on behalf of our people, and I will tell you in detail: Luxembourg allocated 15% of its defense budget to our defenders and defenders, Zelensky said.

According to him According to him, during the meeting, the parties discussed issues regarding assistance to Ukrainian refugees who are in Luxembourg, the restoration of Ukraine and the blocking of Ukrainian ports by Russia.

Luxembourg supports granting Ukraine the status of an EU candidate

During the briefing, the Luxembourg prime minister said that he was in Kyiv to confirm his country's solidarity with Ukraine. According to him, the Duchy will continue to support our country.

– Luxembourg is doing everything it can to help Ukraine. At the humanitarian, financial levels. Moral support is also important. I want to tell the Ukrainians that their future is next to us, and it will be built together, together,” the politician said.

According to Bettel, after reading the conclusion of the European Commission on Ukraine’s application for the status of a candidate for EU members, his country advised other EU members to support the decision in favor of Ukraine.

– I think that there will be a decision that will not only send a strong signal to you, but also to us. This is not only a consequence of the war against Ukraine, it is the defense of our values, for which so many people have already died,” he stressed.

The Prime Minister of Luxembourg also said that he was amazed at the destruction he had seen in Bucha, Borodyanka and Irpin. He supported the importance of providing Ukraine with the necessary weapons to defend their country against Russian invasion.
