Iván García pointed out that it is illogical to talk about reducing the Christmas salary to benefit entrepreneurs
The president of the Dominican Federation of Merchants (FDC), Iván García, advocated this morning for the full salary 13 to be delivered to all workers.
García indicated that it is illogical to talk about reducing the Christmas salary to benefit employers and said that what is needed is to reactivate the economy and one way to do it in December is by paying the full double salary to employees.
The merchants offered statements when participating in an activity called by the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII) on the modification of Law 46-20 on Transparency and Asset Revaluation.
He described as “misguided” the statements of the Minister of Labor , Luis Miguel De Camps, because he is doing it against what the Labor Code establishes and affirmed that it is necessary to be respectful of the Law.
The Labor Minister suggested last week the possibility of exempting companies from paying part of the workers' Christmas salary , due to the economic crisis caused by the pandemic, which has generated much criticism.
He pointed out that the help that workers are receiving through the Fund for Solidarity Assistance to Employment (FASE) does not come from state money, but rather from funds corresponding to occupational hazards. “We had RD $ 35,000 million in an account contributed by us and that money is being delivered PHASE 1 and PHASE 2,” he said.
He added that if the 3% tax on purchases in foreign currency with credit or debit cards is approved , that same amount will be raised for final consumers of some products. In this regard, merchants hope that in his speech tomorrow Thursday, President Luis Abinader will say that these measures will not be carried out.
