Motjekta Madisha: South African footballer dies at 25

Motjeka Madisha was 25 years old. He played at Mamelodi Sundowns, one of the biggest clubs in South Africa and the continent. The athlete died in a car accident.
After the Argentinian Diego Maradona , victim of acute pulmonary edema and the Italian Paolo Rossi , suffering from an incurable disease , the planet Foot loses another of its talents! Motjeka Madisha died this Sunday, December 13, 2020. The South African was 25 years old.

The terrible news fell that same Sunday. Motjeka Madisha died in a car accident east of Johannesbourgh, South Africa. The athlete was one of two occupants of a car that skidded, hit a billboard and caught fire. The BBC reports that Motjeka managed to extricate himself from the burning vehicle but succumbed to his injuries. His friend with whom he was traveling is also deceased.

His club, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, announced the death of its defender on social media.

Motjeka Madisha was born on January 12, 1995 and would have turned 26 early next year. He won the African Champions League in 2016 and the African Super Cup with the Sundowns. Motjeka had 12 caps for the South African national team.

The club deplores the disappearance of a second player in less than a month. On November 23, Sundowns defender on loan to AmaZulu club Anele Ngcongca died near Durban, also in a car accident. The player had spent nine years in Europe, playing for Genk in Belgium between 2007 and 2015 and in Troyes, France, during the 2015-2016 season.
