NYT: Russian leadership has no agreement on whether to start a new offensive against Ukraine

In the Russian Federation, officials cannot yet agree on whether to carry out a new military offensive in Ukraine this winter. This was told to reporters by a senior US State Department official on condition of anonymity, according to The New York Times.

According to the American official, there are internal discussions in the highest military circles of Russia about whether the Russian military can launch a new offensive.

The official said that the US is seeing «contradictory things» in these discussions: some officials are pushing for a new offensive, while others are questioning whether Russia has the capacity to do so.

The State Department spokesman did not specify on what basis the US intelligence base determines the nature of the discussions of the top leadership of the Russian Federation , but added that it is still unclear what «their (Russia) actual actions will lead».

  • The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny, in an interview with The Economist, said that the Russian Federation is preparing about 200 thousand new soldiers. He has no doubt that the Russians will again go to Kyiv.
  • Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov believes that Russia plans to launch another wave of offensive in the war against Ukraine in February 2023.
