The drama took place in a residence located on rue du Biat, in a residential area of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
A man died, while a woman and a teenager were seriously injured on Wednesday night in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu during a tragedy being investigated by the Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI).
According to initial information from the BEI, it all started around 2:05 a.m. when a man reportedly contacted the 911 emergency telephone exchange to indicate that ;he had just committed the irreparable.
When they arrived at the individual's residence on rue du Biat, in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, the police reportedly found a man armed with a knife.
Shots were fired and the 48-year-old man was hit by at least one projectile, says the BEI.
His death was confirmed a little more later in a hospital centre.
On entering the residence, the police found a woman and a teenager seriously injured; they were taken to hospital.
A child was also inside the house, but was not reportedly injured.< /p>
The BEI indicates that six of its investigators have been tasked with clarifying the circumstances of this tragedy.
At the request of the BEI, the Sûreté du Québec is investigating the portion of the event where a woman and a teenager were injured by an individual who died during the police intervention, said Louis-Philippe Ruel, spokesperson for the SQ, in an interview.
