Thomas Dyer, a 32-year-old Ontarian, pleaded guilty to charges of threatening the death of Justin Trudeau. The man threatened the prime minister while he was in Cambridge during the 2021 federal election campaign.

An assistant prosecutor at the Waterloo Crown Attorney's Office has confirmed that Thomas Dyer was charged with uttering death threats and threats to cause bodily harm.

The man pleaded guilty to the death threat charges last week , according to court documents.

On August 29, 2021, Justin Trudeau visited a business in Cambridge, Ontario to deliver a speech. This was delayed due to a protest involving up to 200 people, according to information provided by the police at the time.

According to the Chief Security Officer's report of the Liberal Party, protesters shouted obscenities and issued death threats against Justin Trudeau. They would also have made racist and misogynistic remarks.

None of the protesters were arrested immediately after the incident. It was information from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, witness testimonies and a video posted on social media that prompted the police to open an investigation.

A video taken by a Liberal Party worker shows Thomas Dyer holding a poster showing the Prime Minister being hanged, according to court documents.

Waterloo Regional Police eventually arrested the Kitchener resident of 32 on September 10, 2021. Also according to court documents, Thomas Dyer had participated in a similar protest in Barrie in the weeks leading up to the incident.

The man was released freedom. He is expected to be sentenced on October 20.

Thomas Dyer's attorney had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
