
OPP lays charges following major intervention in Smooth Rock Falls
OPP officers were responding to the area Thursday evening.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges against an individual arrested Thursday evening, described as “armed and dangerous”, in Smooth Rock Falls. A domestic incident is believed to have prompted the police action.
The suspect now faces three counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and possession of a prohibited firearm. The OPP will not release the suspect's name to protect the identity of the victim.
Multiple police had been deployed since late afternoon just east of Fourth and Main Streets to locate the suspect described as a 37-year-old white male around 1.75m tall , brown hair and sporting a goatee on his face.
An alert urging the public to take shelter was in effect for more than two hours. At 7:37 p.m., the OPP said on Twitter that this was no longer in effect following the suspect's arrest.
L& #x27;individual remains in custody pending his bail hearing. A date has still not been set for his appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice.
There was a heavy police presence at the scene.
