Ottawa Police have dealt with several incidents of gun violence: four shootings have been reported in the past four days.

Police authorities, however, do not establish any connection between these incidents.

On Monday, the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) indicated that they were called to the avenue Lorne at approximately 5:20 p.m. in response to calls about a shooting.

Paramedics had to transport a man with a gunshot wound to hospital in serious condition, but stable.

Police have clarified that his injuries are not life threatening and there is no threat to public safety.

The shooting followed two other incidents on Saturday. Officers had been called twice, to two separate shootings.

The first took place at the intersection of Ledbury and Banff avenues just before 6 p.m. A man was taken to hospital for emergency surgery, police said. A 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with this case and a handgun seized.

This intersection has already been the scene of a shooting in broad daylight in early July, which left a man in critical condition. Police have not established a connection between the two incidents.

Number of shootings in Ottawa by year, since 2017:

  • 2017: 75 shootings, 7 related deaths
  • 2018: 78 shootings, 8 related deaths
  • 2019: 73 shootings, 5 related deaths
  • 2020: 46 shootings, 3 related deaths
  • 2021: 82 shootings, 9 related deaths

About half an hour earlier, Saturday, police also responded to another incident at the corner of Morisset and Caldwell avenues. It did not hurt anyone, according to the OPS, but an investigation is underway.

Already Friday, another shooting in the ByWard Market had left at least three wounded. Three men were taken to hospital in serious but stable condition, and other injured people may also be linked to the incident.
