Jaskirat Singh Sidhu, who served his sentence in a prison in Bowden, Alberta, is asking to be released pending his eventual deportation from the country.
The x27;Canada Border Services Agency recommended in March that he be turned over to the Immigration and Refugee Board, which will decide whether he should be deported to India .
His attorney is seeking to argue against deportation in Federal Court.
Jaskirat Singh Sidhu was sentenced to eight years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving charges for the 2018 crash that left 16 dead and 13 injured.
