Defense attorney Laurence Juillet told the Court of Quebec that the accused chose to waive his right to an investigation into the bail because he is currently being held in a Toronto jail and is subject to a Manitoba detention order.
Peter Nygard, who has participated in the short court hearing by telephone, faces a charge of sexual assault and a charge of forcible confinement in Quebec.
Attorney Jérôme Laflamme said the Crown is reportedly ready to set a trial date during the businessman's next appearance in Montreal court scheduled for September 8.
Peter Nygard faces six counts of sexual assault and three counts of forcible confinement in Toronto in connection with alleged incidents dating back to the late 1980s and mid-2000s.
U.S. authorities have requested his extradition so he can face charges of sex trafficking and racketeering in that country.
