Pitt to sue Jolie over secret sale of vineyards to Russian billionaire

Pitt will sue Jolie for secretly selling vineyards to a Russian billionaire

Hollywood actor Brad Pitt has filed a lawsuit against ex-wife Angelina Jolie, saying that the actress damaged the reputation of their joint wine business. Pitt claims that the ex-wife sold her share in the Miraval winery to alcohol magnate Yuri Shefler from Russia, although during the divorce, the couple agreed not to make such transactions without the consent of the parties. People wrote about this on June 7.

The winery is very important for the actor, as it is one of the most respected producers of rosé wine in the world. Pitt is sure that the ex-wife decided to sell a stake in the company in order to harm him, since she herself, according to him, “did nothing” for the prosperity of the business. The actors acquired a majority stake in the winery in 2008.

“Jolie conducted and then secretly completed the proposed sale, deliberately keeping Pitt in the dark and knowingly violating Pitt's rights,” the actor's team said in a statement.

Representatives for the artist said Schefler had “begun a hostile takeover of Miraval and is now seeks to acquire confidential and proprietary information” in the interests of its competing enterprise. The statement also indicated that the actress tried to get her ex-husband to cooperate with the billionaire. Now Pitt demands damages from the ex-wife in the amount to be specified by the court, and the proposed sale of the company's share is declared invalid.

Jolie and Pitt were together from 2005 to 2016. The couple got married in 2014 in France, and two years later Jolie filed for divorce. They officially divorced in 2019, but still resolve issues related to child custody. The actors have three adopted and three biological children. To challenge Pitt's rights in court, Jolie hinted at domestic violence by the actor against one of his sons.
