Possible truce between Israel and Palestine after three days of deadly clashes

Jerusalem is targeted by rockets for the first time since hostilities began on Friday.

Israel accepted the truce offered by Egypt after three days of deadly clashes between the Islamic Jihad group in Gaza and the Israeli army. Egypt is still awaiting an official response from Palestine, but a Palestinian official said the truce would begin at 8 p.m. Sunday evening, according to Reuters.

The truce comes as the escalation of violence spreads to Jerusalem, targeted by rockets for the first time since hostilities began on Friday.

These rockets were intercepted by the missile shield, like 97% of the 585 projectiles launched from Gaza, according to the Israeli army.

A plume of flames and smoke rises from a building bombarded by Israeli warplanes in Gaza on August 6, 2022.

Israeli raids in Gaza have already killed 31 Palestinians , including 6 children. The attacks also left 275 injured in two days in the Israeli-blockaded enclave, reports the Ministry of Health in Gaza.

Israeli authorities say instead of Palestinian children were killed on Saturday by a failed Islamic Jihad rocket fire into Israel.

The Jewish State, which says it launched a preemptive attack targeting Islamic Jihad, claims to have killed fighters and neutralized the leaders of the organization, considered terrorist by Israel, the United States and the European Union.

The main military leaders of the movement in Gaza, Tayssir Al-Jabari and Khaled Mansour, have been killed according to the army. This announcement was confirmed by the Islamic Jihad.

Hamas, the Islamist movement which has governed Gaza since 2007, issued a press release warning against these Israeli incursions. They can lead to an uncontrollable situation.

This is the worst confrontation between Israel and armed organizations in Gaza since the May 2021 war which, in 11 days, left 260 dead on the Palestinian side and 14 dead in Israel , including a soldier, according to local authorities.
