On Friday, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin visited the joint headquarters of the military branches involved in the war against Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the Kremlin.
It is reported that Putin spent the whole day with the military. He got acquainted with the work of the headquarters, listened to a report on the progress of the so-called «NVO», and also held a meeting and separate meetings with the commanders.
From the footage released by the Kremlin, it follows that at meetings with the participation Putin was also attended by Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov and head of the “special operation” Sergei Surovikin.
According to the Agency, this is the first known visit by Putin to the joint headquarters of the troops since the beginning of the war. Prior to this, the President of the Russian Federation did not publicly demonstrate that he was strongly involved in the leadership of the military operation. He heard reports from the Minister of Defense and issued orders that did not concern specific operations. For example, almost immediately after the invasion, Putin ordered Shoigu and Gerasimov to put the deterrence forces on a special alert regime, and during a meeting with Shoigu in the summer, he called the assault on Azovstal inappropriate.
The footage released by the Kremlin can also be seen as a refutation of rumors about the resignation of Gerasimov, which appeared on telegram channels at the end of last week, the Agency notes.
Putin demonstrated his great involvement in the war in Ukraine against the backdrop of the emergence of information about the impending new offensive of Russian troops. Earlier, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny said in an interview with The Economist that the Russian Federation is preparing about 200,000 new soldiers. He has no doubt that the Russians will again go to Kyiv.
