Putin ordered a ceasefire for Christmas time

Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to introduce a ceasefire along the entire line of contact between the parties in Ukraine during the celebration of Orthodox Christmas. This is reported by the Russian media.

It is reported that the ceasefire will be in effect from 12:00 on January 6 to 24:00 on January 7. Putin gave such an order to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in connection with the appeal of Patriarch Kirill.

“Based on the fact that a large number of citizens professing Orthodoxy live in the combat areas, we call on the Ukrainian side to declare a ceasefire and allow them to attend services on Christmas Eve and on the day of the Nativity of Christ,” Putin’s instructions read.

  • On the morning of January 5, the website of the Russian Orthodox Church published an appeal by Patriarch Kirill, who called on “all parties involved in the internecine conflict” to a Christmas truce. In the OP, the proposal of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church was called “a cynical trap and an element of propaganda.”
