Rushdie”s family “relieved” that he is no longer on life support

The family of Salman Rushdie said they were “extremely relieved” on Sunday that the British writer was no longer on life support. She said her sense of humor remained “intact” despite the severity of her injuries.

My father remains in critical condition in hospital receiving intensive and ongoing treatment, his son, Zafar Rushdie, said in a tweet posted on behalf of the family.

We are extremely relieved that yesterday [Saturday] he was taken off the ventilator and oxygen supply and was able to say a few words, he added.

Although his injuries are serious and life-changing, his usual lively and provocative sense of humor remains intact, continued Zafar Rushdie, who runs a London-based PR agency.

< p class="e-p">He thanked members of the public who came out to defend the author of Satanic Verses during Friday's attack in New York State as well as the police officers and caregivers who assisted him.

Relief quickly intervened to rescue Salman Rushdie who had just been stabbed.

Salman Rushdie, author of Satanic Verses and target for over 30 years of a fatwa from Iran, had been placed on a ventilator after being stabbed v Friday to the neck and abdomen in New York State by a man who was arrested.
