Russia upgraded X-101 missiles to break through air defense with special traps, but the logic of their use remains unclear | A PHOTO
The Russian occupiers upgraded their Kh-101 missiles to break through Ukrainian air defense. Defense Express reports this.
In one of the photos of the cruise missile destroyed on January 26, you can see a block that looks like a jamming station. Sources of the publication note that we are talking about a station for firing heat traps to counter infrared homing heads.
«It was not possible to find more details by the code L-504, which, most likely, is the marking of the product. There is information that in the Russian Federation & # 171; Research Institute & # 171; Ekran & # 187; in 2017, completed the production of a pre-production series of active jamming stations SP-504. This station is designed to protect helicopters and aircraft, but in the radar, not in the thermal range & # 187;, & # 8212; the message says.
However, it was noted that such blocks began to be noticed about two months ago. If the second part of the marking «862-4-22» read as plant code, quarter and year, the unit was manufactured in the last quarter of the previous year.
The publication notes that the logic of using these modules remains unclear. So, to fix the launch of missiles with IR homing heads, it is necessary to install a fairly massive system with observation cameras. Without this system, shooting off heat traps in automatic mode is impossible.
«The only scenario is to shoot them at the appropriate point on the route, for example, directly in the target area. In particular, this is indicated by the fact that so far the firing of heat traps by X-101 missiles has not been recorded, and the blocks themselves on the destroyed missiles are fully charged, because they were destroyed on the march sections of the route far from the targets & # 187;, & # 8212; said in the message.
