Russia used a new type of bombs against Ukraine. Why are they dangerous | PHOTO
For the first time, the Russian Aerospace Forces used new and rather dangerous weapons against Ukraine — guided planning bombs UPAB-1500V (index K029B) weighing 1500 kg. This was reported by Defense Express.
The first use of this type of ammunition was recorded a few weeks ago against one of the objects in the Chernihiv region. Defense Express learned this from its own sources — on one of the wreckage there were remains of markings corresponding specifically to UPAB-1500V.
It is noted that this planning ammunition was first demonstrated in the export version with the K029BE index in 2019 by the developer «GNPP «Region», which is part of the «Tactical Missiles» at the MAKS exhibition.
Then it was reported that this bomb had already been tested, put into service with the Russian Aerospace Forces and received the first export orders.
The high threat of using the UPAB-1500V is that it belongs to the gliders, is equipped with an inertial and satellite navigation system and has a warhead weighing 1010 kg, designed to destroy highly protected objects. The bomb can be dropped 40 km from the target, for which the carrier must rise to a height of 14 km.
Also «GNPP «Region» also demonstrated the smaller caliber ammunition UPAB-500V (index K08B), which is a reduced copy of the UPAB-1500V and weighs 505 kg, of which 390 kg falls on the warhead while maintaining other features.
At the same time, the use of planning bombs by the Russian Federation remains isolated phenomena. Ensuring a high flight range requires the occupiers to fly at a considerable height, which simplifies the identification of targets and the possibility of destroying the carrier. Therefore, it is possible that the Su-34 front-line bomber shot down on March 3 near Yenakiyevo was flying with such ammunition.
