Semyon Semenchenko was released from the pre-trial detention center under round-the-clock house arrest. This was announced by the wife of the former people's deputy and founder of the Donbass battalion, Natalya Muzyka, UNIAN reports.

On June 21, the Kyiv Court of Appeal changed the measure of restraint. At the same time, Semenchenko's wife noted that on June 22, a meeting on the extension of the preventive measure would be held in the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv. She did not rule out that the ex-MP could be returned to custody.

Ukrayinska Pravda reported that the Kyiv Court of Appeal satisfied the appeal of Semenchenko's defense lawyer in part. The former parliamentarian is obliged to arrive at the request of the court and refrain from communicating with witnesses. The definition is valid for 60 days, until August 19. The full court decision will be made public on June 23.

The publication also wrote that on June 13, the head of the GUR, Kirill Budanov, appealed to the Kyiv Court of Appeal and the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv with letters in which he vouched for Semyon Semenchenko.

The head of military intelligence noted that Semenchenko is a former unit commander, and now his organizational skills will benefit the defense of Ukraine. Budanov noted that Semenchenko has repeatedly expressed his desire to take part in the defense, and President Volodymyr Zelensky allowed the involvement of experienced fighters who are in custody or serving sentences.

The head of the GUR indicated that Semenchenko is accused of crimes, not associated with a threat to the life and health of citizens, his guilt has not been proven. Most of the defendants in this case fulfill their duty to defend Ukraine with weapons in their hands in official units.

The GUR promises that if Semenchenko is released from custody, he will make sure that he arrives at the military unit and further to the front, and the end of hostilities – to guarantee participation in trials.

On February 26, two days after the Russian attack, Semyon Semenchenko announced that he had been released and then returned to the pre-trial detention center.

Semyon Semenchenko was arrested on March 26, 2021. He was accused of creating a paramilitary armed group, illegal circulation of military goods, shelling the building of the 112 Ukraine TV channel in Kyiv.
