Several reinforcements were dispatched to the area around the shopping center where the shooting took place.

Several people were hit by gunfire at a major shopping center in Copenhagen on Sunday and one person was arrested in connection with the shooting, police said.

We don't yet know for sure how many are injured or dead, but it's very serious, Copenhagen Mayor Sophie H. Andersen said on Twitter.

These shots were fired in the late afternoon inside the Fields shopping center in the Amager district, located between the city center and the ;capital airport.

One person has been arrested in connection with the shooting. We have no immediate opportunity to say more about his identity, the police said on Twitter.

Important Police reinforcements have been dispatched to the vicinity of this vast shopping mall. Footage from the scene showed paramedics carrying a casualty on a stretcher and mothers comforting their children in their arms.

Police did not immediately say the number or condition of the victims. According to national television, three people have been hospitalized, but this assessment does not include possible on-site treatment.

A crisis unit has been triggered , according to the mayor of Copenhagen.

When the first shots were heard, more than a hundred people rushed outside the gallery commercial, according to witnesses quoted by Danish media.

Several people fled the mall after hearing the gunshots.

Authorities called on those potentially in the building to wait inside for help to arrive, and to all others to stay away from the area.

Roads around the mall are blocked with a large security perimeter, metro traffic is cut off and a helicopter flies over the area, according to a journalist AFP on site.

Heavily armed police prevent residents from returning to their homes.

Police do not ;gave no indication of the motives for the shooting.

The last attack in Copenhagen dates back to February 14 and 15, 2015, when a series of word shootings Islamist ivation left two dead and five injured.
