Sorel-Tracy: motorcyclist dies following hit-and-run

The van ended its escape in an accident with a dump truck.

< p class="e-p">A motorcyclist died following an accident, which occurred on Tuesday morning, with a van driven by a man in his forties. It did not stop following the collision and continued on its way.

The pick-up style van[…] and a motorcycle were traveling in the same direction, one behind the other, and there was an impact. The motorcyclist was hit from behind, said Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

The van continued his route to rue Béatrice, which is very close to the site of the first collision, where the motorcyclist was found seriously injured following a second accident, adds Ms. Bilodeau.

Rescuers carried out resuscitation maneuvers before transporting the motorcyclist to hospital, where he died a few hours later.

The fugitive continued on his way after the second accident on rue Béatrice, where he collided with a dump truck at the intersection of rue Provost and rue du Prince.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured, but the driver of the van was. He was taken to hospital, where he was apprehended by the police. However, there is no fear for his life.

In the afternoon, the investigators were trying to obtain a warrant to take a blood sample from the driver of the van, in order to whether he was impaired by alcohol or drugs.

The SQ spokesperson mentions that the man could face charges because he left the scene of an accident and committed a fatal hit-and-run.
