The British Royal Court has unveiled a new portrait of Elizabeth II

The UK is starting to celebrate the platinum anniversary of Elizabeth II. The queen has a whole week scheduled literally by the hour – she needs to attend as many events as possible. As part of the celebration, the royal court unveiled a new portrait of the monarch, made by Ranald Makechny at Windsor Castle on May 25. In the background are the Round Tower and the statue of King Charles II, which stands in the quadrangle of the castle.

– I know that these festive events will leave many happy memories. I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me and I hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved over the past seventy years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm,” the Queen commented on the beginning of the holidays.

Among Elizabeth's plans is a meeting with great-grandchildren Archie and Lilibet. The Queen hasn't seen Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's son for over two years. The baby, named after her, Elizabeth has not yet seen in person. Although already this weekend, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will have a festive party in honor of the first birthday of the crumbs Lilibet. Among those invited to the holiday are the Queen, but not Kate Middleton and Prince William – they have a trip to Cardiff planned for that day.

Elizabeth II was born in 1926 and ascended the throne at 25 years old after the death of her father the king George VI. The Queen is the highest-record monarch in British history. She reigns longer than any other king or queen.

She recently turned 96 years old. Her husband Prince Philip died in April 2021, two months before his own 100th birthday and less than two weeks before his wife's anniversary.
