Ukrainian counteroffensive forced Russia to ask for negotiations. Kyiv refused

The counter-offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine forced Russian officials to turn to the Ukrainian authorities to resume negotiations. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna in an interview with France 24.

«Stefanyshyna said that in recent days, Russian officials have turned to Ukraine for negotiations , but now her country has more leverage, and it will only start negotiations after it has achieved its military goals,” the publication says.

Stefanishina noted that now the Russians are offering Kyiv talks to stop the advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the counteroffensive.

During the conversation, the minister called this stage of the confrontation a turning point not only in the full-scale invasion of the Russian troops that began on February 24, but also in the entire war that has been ongoing since the spring of 2014. She expressed confidence that the temporarily occupied regions of Donetsk and Lugansk regions and Crimea would return to the control of the government of Ukraine.

In addition, the minister called on the leaders of European states to impose additional sanctions against the Russian Federation, noting that the topic of Russia's energy resources is her weak point, and restrictions should be directed specifically at this sector.

  • According to media reports, the UAF counteroffensive plan was developed with London and Washington, but it was changed.
