The “head” of Poland resigned: how it will affect Ukraine

Poland's 'chief' resigns: how will this affect Ukraine

Polish Vice Prime Minister and head of the ruling Law and Justice party Yaroslav Kaczynski resigned. He also resigned as head of the National Security Committee.

“Currently, I no longer work for the Polish government. I have already submitted my resignation letter to the Prime Minister and it has been accepted. As far as I know, the president also signed it,” the Polish edition of Wiadomosci quoted him as saying.

Kaczyński added that Mariusz Blaszczak, head of the Ministry of National Defense, will become his successor as deputy prime minister. Zbigniew Hoffman, Deputy Chairman of the Prime Minister's Office, will head the Security Committee instead of Kaczynski.

Why Kaczynski is leaving

Yaroslav Kaczynski explained his resignation by saying that he now wants to concentrate on work in the party so that it not only wins the next election, but also remains in power. According to him, due to the position of Deputy Prime Minister at the party headquarters, he only appears once a week, and this is not enough.

“It’s not that I overestimate my role, it’s just that the party needs to regain its vigor, because the time is approaching, which is the most important for every political party in the world. The purpose of the elections is to get a good result, and when it comes to the Law and Justice Party, then the goal is victory over them and the possibility of power, of course, in the coalition of the “United Rights”, – said the head of “PiS”.

The next parliamentary elections will be held in Poland in 2023. The main rival of the PiS party is the opposition Civic Platform party, led by Donald Tusk. Both Kaczynski and Tusk are considered political heavyweights in Poland. Therefore, Kaczynski wants to start preparing for the elections now in order to defeat his rival, who has quite a strong support in Poland. When asked about a political pension, he replied that he was 72 years old, so the prospect “is, but when it happens, God knows.”

Kaczyński is an ally of Kyiv

Jarosław Aleksander Kaczynski is considered the most influential politician in Poland. Despite the fact that he is only the chairman of the Law and Justice party, it is he who largely determines the domestic and foreign policy of the country. For this reason, many in Poland call Jarosław Kaczynski “the boss”. Yaroslav Kachinsky is single. Lives in the Warsaw district Zhelibozh. His twin brother Lech Kaczynski, President of Poland in 2005-2010, died in a plane crash in Smolensk (Russia).

With regard to Ukraine, Yaroslav Kaczynski took a firm stand in support of our country and criticism of Russia. Just the other day, he said the war could spread beyond Ukraine if the West appeases Russian dictator Putin. In addition, Kaczynski expressed the opinion that the West should do everything possible for the victory of Ukraine, because “the defeat of the West (especially the United States) in Ukraine will be something more serious than Vietnam, not to mention Afghanistan.”

< p>And that military-technical and financial assistance to Ukraine, which Warsaw provides Kyiv, would not have been possible without the support of Kaczynski. Not so long ago, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Yaroslav Kachinsky with the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, II degree “for his significant personal contribution to strengthening Ukrainian-Polish interstate cooperation, supporting the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

Expert's opinion

Taras Chornovil, expert on Poland:

– Kaczynski's departure will not affect relations with Ukraine in any way. This is more of an internal affair of Poland. It is connected with the confrontation within the Law and Justice party between Kaczynski and President Andrzej Duda. Kaczynski believes that he is the bearer of the ideas of his brother, deceased President Lech Kaczynski. And therefore he believes that the last words should be his. And Andrzej Duda, who is gaining more and more fame in the world thanks to the support of Ukraine, does not want to agree with this. However, Kaczynski wants to increase his influence in the party. In addition, he wants to continue to pursue Eurosceptic policies, which Polish President Andrzej Duda is trying to smooth over. In general, the Law and Justice party has a high chance of getting a good result in next year's parliamentary elections.
