The legendary “Da Vinci” died in the battles for Bakhmut
In the battle near Bakhmut, the legendary fighter, hero of Ukraine Dmitry Kotsyubaylo with the call sign «Da Vinci», died. This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
«Today, Da Vinci, a hero of Ukraine, a volunteer, a man-symbol, a man-courage, died in battle – Dmitry Kotsyubaylo. Fighter of the 67th separate mechanized brigade, battalion commander. He died in the battle near Bakhmut, in the battle for Ukraine», the head of state said.
Zelensky recalled that Dmitry is one of the youngest heroes of Ukraine.
«One of the youngest heroes of Ukraine. One of those whose personal history, character, courage forever became the history, character and courage of Ukraine», the president added.
27-year-old Dmitry Kotsyubaylo was born in the village of Zadnestryansk, Galician district of Ivano -Frankivsk region. From the very beginning of the events on the Maidan, he actively participated in the Revolution of Dignity. After its completion, at the age of 17, he left to defend Ukraine from Russian aggression with weapons in his hands.
In 2014 he commanded a platoon of volunteers, in 2015 he became a company commander. In 2014, he was seriously wounded by a tank shell in the village of Peski, Donetsk region. After recovery, after 3 months of rehabilitation he returned to the front. On March 17, 2016, he was appointed commander of the 1st separate Da Vinci Wolves assault company of the DUK PS, which was reformatted into a battalion.
On December 1, 2021, President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Dmitry Kotsyubaylo the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Order & #171;Gold Star». As noted in the presidential decree, the high rank was awarded to Dmitry Kotsyubaylo for personal courage shown in protecting the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
From the beginning of a full-scale war, he led a separate mechanized battalion “Da Vinci Wolves” as part of the 67th separate mechanized brigade.
