Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov has been appointed the new commander of the joint grouping of Russian occupation forces in Ukraine, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Sergey Surovikin, who previously headed the Russian grouping in Ukraine, has been appointed Gerasimov's deputy.< /p>
The Ministry of Defense called this reshuffle “an increase in the level of leadership of the special operation.” It is connected «with the expansion of the scale of tasks to be solved, as well as with the need to organize closer interaction between different branches and types of troops».
